Thanks to all who came out on Monday for another lively discussion, on “Faith & Science” as a part of the,“Foundations of Faith,” adult education series. I’ve been very happy with the quality of questions and conversations these past two weeks. Now the course is in, “full swing” as they say.
While the past two weeks have covered, “Faith & Reason,” and, “Faith & Science,” this week there is a shift as we discuss, “Revelation as Communication.” When I was putting together the flyers for the course, I struggled to name this session because I was worried that if I just put “Revelation,” people would think it was just about the last book of the Bible. Instead after a few weeks of talking about how we come to know things through faith, reason and science, we now look the other direction, that is how God reveals, or communicates himself to us. That is how we can know about God.
This first week will be more basic, foundational issues. Then the next two weeks, we’ll look at more particular or specific aspects as we cover, “The Origins of Sacred Scripture,” and, “Scripture & Tradition.”
For this week, the readings come from a variety of sources, including:
- Catechism of the Catholic Church (1992)
- Vatican I – Dei Filius (1870)
- Vatican II – Dei Verbum (1965)
- Vatican II – Gaudium et Spes (1965)
